Loss of a generation.

This has been a rough year for my family. This spring we lost my great Grandma Corwin. This was my grandma's mom. She had been widowed for 31 years. She worked and drove until she was 92. She was an amazing woman. I was very close to her and I miss her a lot. We have many pictures with her and I was very lucky to have her in my life as long as I did. We have a bunch of pictures with her of five generations. This one was of her at her 97th birthday party in Madras. She wanted to go to Dairy Queen.

On Friday I lost my other great grandma. This was my grandfather's mom. Great Grandma Markgraf was also an amazing person. She lost her husband 10 years ago and has been living with my grandparents for the past 3 years. We would take the kids out to their house and the boys would play games with her and got to know her very well. It was very special to me that not only did I get to know her but my Boys got to know her. Now that she is gone we have lost the last of the fifth generation in our family.

Growing up we would go and visit both of these great ladies and spend time with both of them. When I moved to Portland to go to college I would make the trip to Madras across Mt. Hood at least once a month if not every weekend to go and see them and spend time with them. I would take them to the store because they both got to the point where they did not like to drive. We would watch the Portland Trail Blazers games on TV. We would work on family history and they would tell me stories from our family. We would go on drives and go to the little town of Antelope OR. and see the homestead and how much it has changed. These are the times that I will remember with both of my great grandmas. I will miss them both very much.
